We are seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Research Library Manager. Click here for details.
HOURS: The library is open during museum hours, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm Tuesday-Saturday. The library will be closed Feb. 22nd and 23rd.
The Monroe County History Center Research Library serves genealogists and local historians alike. The Library has one full-time librarian and many knowledgeable volunteers who can assist you with your research. However, due to the Library’s staff limitations, it is helpful to make an appointment with the librarian before arriving, especially if you are traveling from another area.
The Library focuses on genealogy, county government history, local geography, communities of Monroe County, local businesses and organizations, cemeteries, churches, oral history, and architectural history. The Library also houses original county documents including: land records, marriage records, probate records, commissioner’s records, and court records from 1818-mid 1950s.
If you’d like to search indexes to the Library’s resources before arriving, select indexes are listed here.
You can also search for resources and photos in the Center’s online catalog. All photo requests must be placed with Collections, with the “Order Image” option available in the online photo catalog or available here.
If you wish to donate books to the Library please complete a Temporary Custody Form and bring your items to the History Center. A committee reviews donations for acceptance into the collection. Books not accepted to the collection can be sold at the Center’s annual sale or returned to the donor. The library accepts family history books, genealogy files, books by local authors, and resources of significance to Monroe County.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to the Research Library, please contact email@example.com or 812-332-2717 Ext: 4. You may also submit a donation through mail. Please specify that you would like your donation to go to the Research Library. Your donations allow the library to acquire new resources, purchase preservation supplies, and even improve its space.
