Thursday, May 22, 5 - 6:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, May
20, two exhibits will open at the History Center in celebration the
100th Anniversary of the Monroe County Courthouse. The
public is invited to the opening reception at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday,
May 22 in honor of everyone who has worked to protect and preserve
this historic building.
Join current and past county
officials at the opening reception. Former County Commissioner
Charlotte Zietlow will speak about how close we came to tearing down
the courthouse in 1982 and about the people who spearheaded the “Let’s
Save It” campaign. County Commissioner and past president of the
Monroe County Historical Society Joyce Poling will speak about the
importance of the Courthouse to today’s Monroe County citizens.
The two exhibits are:
• The "Life in 1908" exhibit will present a portrait of life in Monroe
County at the time the courthouse was built.
• The "100 Years Under the Fish" will chronicle a century of our
courthouse history. |
