Policies & Rules

Visitors are allowed to use all materials in the Reading Room portion of the GL (Genealogy Library).

The items in our GL do not circulate. No book, document, or folder should leave the GL. The GL Director should approve and complete a special form for any special consideration of this policy.

A volunteer will assist in the handling of any items where it is deemed necessary.

Visitors should wear gloves when working with old documents and all archival items.

Remember to use the support, bean bags, for archival bound books.

Visitors may not copy from the archival bound books. Only volunteers instructed and approved to make copies will be permitted to do so. There is a Rates Sheet for copy fees.

Probate records may be copied by a GL assistant only. The visitor may look through the file to determine what is to be copied. Only one folder is to be in use at a time. Visitors will sign the folder in and out. If there is not time to copy the Probate record while the patron is in the GL, they must leave a request, and it will be filled as soon as possible. There is a limit of 10 deeds per request. The visitor will be charged according to the Rates Sheet.

The newspaper clipping cards and envelopes should be handled carefully. Copying is permitted. The Volunteer will assist and supervise this activity. It is suggested that as many clippings (on cards) as possible be copied on one page. The  copy machine should be set on "Photo" for better copies of darkened newsprint. When using the clippings from envelopes, it is extremely important to get the clipping back into the correct envelope. Remove only one clipping from one envelope at a time to avoid a mix up. The volunteer will file the card and envelopes back into the file drawers. If the volunteer does not have the time to file them immediately after use, the items be placed in the file basket on the top of the envelope file cabinet.
