Passed in December 1975, Bloomington’s short-lived first gay rights amendment was one of the first in the nation. Local gay and lesbian activists pushed for civil rights protections, and progressive city leaders were willing to listen. Fifty years later, we look back at the rise and fall of Ordinance 75-67. Join us in marking the 50th anniversary of equal rights in Bloomington by viewing “Ordinance 75-67: Bloomington’s First Gay Rights Amendment” this Friday, June 27th from 6 to 8pm at the Monroe County History Center. Guest curated by Annabelle Vosmeier, the exhibit shares the story of the local activists’ push for civil rights protections of the LGBTQ+ community and our community leaders who were willing to listen. Light refreshments will be provided and remarks will begin at 6:30pm.
