Below is a list of needed materials, including several options for making your sash. Please have your materials on hand and ready to go at the time of the class.
We recommend using materials you have on hand where ever possible rather than going out to purchase them. Historically suffragist sashes were not completely uniform, so don’t worry about having exact matches for the materials on the list.
At least ¼ yd Yellow Fabric – Joann Fabrics Kona Cotton Solids in “Sunny” is recommended
At least ¼ yd Purple Fabric – Joann Fabrics Country Classics Cotton in “Parachute Purple” is recommended
At least ¼ yd White Fabric – the more opaque the better, but if yours is fairly sheer you’ll also need
Iron-on interfacing (optional – cotton preferred)
You’ll need to be able to cut two 30” long pieces or one 60” long piece by about 4” wide so you can either use ¼ yard or larger pieces of fabrics/other remnants or buy 2-yard lengths and have enough to make quite a few sashes in one go. Be sure to prewash your fabrics if you ever plan to wash your sash.
