Looking for a dynamic, hands-on educational program? Look no further, our programs are perfect for students, youth groups/clubs, scouts and lifelong learners. We have a variety of programs to choose from for all ages.
Unguided General Tour and Scavenger Hunt
Designed for teachers, parents, and care-partners who wish to guide their students, children or family through the galleries at their leisure can use copies of our Scavenger Hunt for a day of fun and education.
Time to Complete: Varies
Cost: School groups pay $1 per individual youth museum admission. Chaperones are FREE with school groups!
Adult admission is $2 per individual.
Guided General Tour
Our expert museum staff will provide your group a guided tour of our exhibits filled with colorful backstories, educational tidbits and unique points of view.
Time to Complete: 1 hour but can vary according to age and interest of students.
Cost: $30 per group plus $1 individual youth museum admission. Chaperones are FREE!
Guided Subject Tour
This unique tour is lead by one of our expert staff members and focuses on a particular subject of your choosing. Additional programming such as scavenger hunts, activities and tailored presentations are available for an additional fee. At least 4 weeks notice required.
Time to Complete: 30-60 minutes depending on the subject being covered.
Cost: $35 per group (group size up to 30 people) plus $1 individual youth museum admission. Chaperones are FREE!
Our workshops allow students to have a fun, hands-on experience and explore subjects in a much more in-depth way. Intended for students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade, workshops are designed for groups up to 30 students and range from 45 minutes.
Cost: $30 per group plus $1 per individual youth museum admission.
Your Place Instead of Ours? No problem, our Education Manager loves to visit area schools and youth organization. All workshops are available offsite except for ABCs of Monroe County for a cost of $40 per session.
All workshops meet select Indiana Academic Standards.

ABCs of Monroe County (Grades Pre-K – 2)
In this workshop, students will get to know Monroe County by reading about an alphabet’s worth of Bloomington people and places and then exploring the galleries to pick out Monroe County’s important people and places to include in their own “ABCs of Monroe County” book.
MoCo Critters (Grades 3-6)
Discover the animals who have called Monroe County home since the last ice age. Learn what makes a fossil a fossil, how animals adapted to their environment and why certain species survived while others didn’t.

Rock On! (Grades 3-8)
Indiana has unique geology with our limestone and sandstone formations. Examine the different types of minerals and rocks both above and below ground and leave with a greater understanding of the importance of limestone in our region.
Monroe County in the Civil War (Grades 3-8)
Experience a day in the life of a Civil War soldier by examining historical reproductions of items used during the war, historic photographs and documents from some of Monroe County’s greatest war heroes. Discover Monroe County’s contribution to the Civil War both on the battlefield and the home front.

Pioneer Life (Grades 3-8)
Step back in time and discover what it took to get to Indiana by covered wagon in when we became a state in 1818. You’ll learn how settling in Indiana, what types of chores and school work a Monroe County pioneer child experienced and what general life was like back in the early 1800s. It wasn’t all work and no play though, you’ll also see what pioneer toys and games were like too!

Pack Your Wagon (Grades 3-8)
Try your hand at packing the wagon of a family moving from Kentucky to Monroe County in 1818. Learn about the hardships of early settlers as they traveled, deciding what they would bring along with them on their journey.
Time Travel Trunks
Perfect for educators looking for a multi-disciplinary unit of study on a particular topic all in one box! Includes everything you need to teach the unit: background information, lesson plans, artifacts students can touch, activities, and additional materials.
Trunks are available to rent for two weeks (Saturday to Saturday). Renters are responsible for transporting the trunks to and from the History Center.
Cost: $10 for two week rental

To provide your group the best experience possible, we recommend making your reservations at least 2 weeks in advance to enable our Education Manager to prepare any special needs for your group. Any program requests within two (2) weeks of the requested date may be charged a late scheduling fee of $10.00.
Teachers and Chaperones:
For Primary through High School groups, a 1:5 adult to student ratio is recommended. For Middle and High School groups, a 1:10 adult to student ratio is recommended. The History Center considers a group tour to be 30 people or less. Teachers and chaperones (per ratios listed) receive free admission. Additional adult attendees will be charged $2.00 a person.
Payment for most programs will be accepted ahead of time, the day of, or within one month of the performed activity. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted. The History Center will provide you with an invoice.
