Volunteer/Internship FAQ’s:
Q: What positions are available?
A: We have volunteer positions in our Collections, Exhibits, Education, Research Library, Marketing & Social Media, Office Assistant, and Greeter Desk. For descriptions, visit our Volunteer Position List.
Q: How many hours would I be required to work?
A: Depending upon the volunteer position, volunteers are scheduled anywhere from 3 hours per month to 20 hours per week.
Q: Do I have to volunteer on a regular schedule?
A: Greeters and Collections Volunteers generally work within a regular schedule. Special Events and Buildings & Grounds positions are great for those who work during the week, as most of the projects can be done at any time. Other positions have flexible schedules.
Q: Will I be trained for my position?
A: Yes, this is an important part of the volunteer process. You are provided with an orientation and continuing support while you volunteer.
Q: Where do I park? How do I get there?
A: We have two designated spots for the History Center in the City parking lot at 6th and Lincoln. You do need to come into the office and get a hang tag for your windshield each time you use them to avoid being ticketed. If those two spots are taken, there is metered parking in the lot and along 6th Street and Washington Street. On-street parking is $1 per hour or 25 cents per 15-minute increment. The meters take cash, debit/credit cards (with an additional 50 cent fee) or you can use the Park Mobile app. If you are volunteering on a regular basis, you may apply for a Zone 4 parking permit from the City for $25. The Zone 4 Permit allows you to park unlimited hours in any Residential Zone 4 space. Talk to Rose in the office if that is of interest to you. For additional parking information, please request a Downtown Parking Handout created by the City of Bloomington.
